950-53 campaign, in alphabetical order:
| Corentyn deLaCor |
Born 919 A.C. Corentyn was born the second son
of a prosperous peasant farmer in rural Middlemarch. He fought in the
Marcher was as a teen and was knighted for his actions at the Battle of
Verdan Field. While Corentyn went to University after the war, he
considers himself just a normal “good ol' boy.” Typically he
dresses in Sienovese style, preferring russets and browns.
Corentyn has hazel eyes and wavy brown hair cut below the ears as well
as a closely cut beard. His build is lanky and his height, nearly
a hand over 6 feet, indicates some of the Old Western Blood runs in his
veins. Corentyn is quiet about his faith, but it is an important part
of his life. He firmly believes in the reform doctrine of human
potential, and has occasionally considered the priesthood as a career.
He very perceptive of human nature. |

| Takayama Akino (deLaCor) | Born 925 A.C. It was a rendezvous between a Takayama woman and Galacian man of the MacGregor clan that resulted in Akino's birth. While Akino was raised among her elven clan, as a half-breed she was never more than a curiosity to most of her society. Akino treasures the art she has learned, the skill, character, and discipline which were taught to her by her nito master, Takagawa Miyamoto. After years of training, Takagawa has sent Akino forth into the human world to continue learning in ways he can no longer teach her. For her own part, Akino longs to discover just what the human half of her heritage means for who she is and what she may become. It was a pleasant coincidence that, just as Akino set out into this new part of her life, she met Niall and Brianna MacGregor, human scholars from the elven-influenced Gakkou no Kage, or Shadow School, in Galacia. They are (somewhat distant) relatives of her human clan. | ![]() |
| Alayn Shiro and Shinobu Margo deLaCor | Born
951 A.C. Adorable.
Troublemakers. Now talking, counting, and working on potty
training... |
|
| Victoria Madelaine Denare |
Born 1789, A.C. The only child of the eccentric inventor Baron Victor Denare and proper gentlewoman Madelaine Wheeler, Victoria grew up in a world devoid of that ancient myth of magic…or so she thought. However, that didn’t stop her from learning everything she could about magic even while excelling in her other studies. At 23, society considers her a spinster and a bluestocking, despite her alluring beauty and grace. The latter is mainly due to her mother’s forced deportment training in an attempt to suppress Victoria’s tomboyish tendencies. Victoria’s strong belief in science and her disdain for religion will probably be tested in her "future." |

| Daria Gray |
Born 920 A. C. More handsome and striking than
pretty, Daria stands half a hand under six feet, and is wiry and
muscular for a woman. She has tanned skin and usually wears her
brown hair tied at the nape of her neck. She has a thin white
scar
running down the side of her face from her right temple. Her
dress is unpretentious and more often than not, she wears a masculine
style, or perhaps a split skirt over trousers. Daria is skilled
with many weapons, but typically carries a falchion and over under
wheellock pistol. Daria was once a member of a prestigious Covenanter
unit of magical ‘mage hunters,’ and has served as a Mercenary in
Achaea. She is currently a Rogation officer with the Covenant due
to some rather unusual circumstances. She knows a little combat
magic and quite a bit of counter-spell magic. |

| Brianna MacGregor | Born 929 A.C. The children of Lord Brenos and Lady Ithil of Anam Dachaigh, Brianna and her twin Naill share the unusual coloring of their mother's people—thick, straight, blue-black hair, pale blue eyes, and fair skin. They have high cheek bones and strong, sculpted features. A scholar at heart, Brianna left home at a young age to study ancient learning at the Dubharach Tigh Foghluim, or Shadow School of the central Galacian highlands. | |
| Niall MacGregor | Born 929 A.C. Born in the year of the Great King, Niall of Clan MacGregor is the fourth son of Lord Brennos and Lady Ythil, one of the major families of the Anam Dachaigh-the Haunted Lands-in Galacia. Niall was born with the soul and musical skills of a bard, but violent scandal prevented his acceptance as a full bard, and forced his path to follow his twin sister, Brianna, through the Dubharach Tigh Foghluim, or Shadow School of the central Galacian highlands. Niall has a light-hearted bearing and an easy smile, however, events of late have darkened his countenance and given him reason to focus his thoughts on deeper subjects than the ladies he normally would entertain. | ![]() |
| Funaho Achiko Masaki |
Born 861 A.C. Funaho is Elven, with
long, very dark black hair and pine green eyes. She is slender
and just under six feet tall. She dresses in either Elven
or human style, as suits her fancy. When traveling among humans,
she reverses her name, human style. She keeps two personal names
because she has kept two "lives" or professions. Funaho-san is a
poet, but Achiko-san is a well known painter. While she is well
trained in the traditional forms, her subjects (and lifestyle) are very
avant garde—at least as far as elves are
concerned. She likes associating with humans, as she enjoys their
creativity and spontaneity. Funaho is quite playful and seems to
enjoy scandalizing her friends, both human and Elven. |
|
| Mati Paarainen | Born 1778 A.C. Mati is the son of a prosperous Valmaran merchant. His parents used their money to send him to a good bording school where he he had an unremarkable tenure (due in no small part to the fact that he spent more time solving penny puzzle books than homework problems. His skill at polo and his father's money earned him a commission in the Valmaran Cavalry upon graduation. There Mati demonstrated a facility with languages and was farmed out to the Valmaran Office of Intelligence and Critical Affairs where he worked until 1809. While on a diplomatic mission for them, he was captured by an insurgent plains tribe in league with the Fox. While he extricated himself and sent for help, he had to contend with the Fox's unseelie allies. The things he claimed to have seen drew the attention of the Minister of Education, who recruited him into an even more secretive agency... | ![]() |
| Aurainen Vardis Railius |
Born c. 900 A.C. Aurainen
appears to be
in his late twenties or early thirties. While, at six foot, he is
a bit short for an Imperial of good family, Aurainen's features are
classic for that people: pale skin, narrow face, high cheek bones, and
deep set eyes. His eyes are storm grey and he keeps his dark hair
cut shoulder length and magically braided with strands of silver.
Aurainen is very fluent in the language that Taahvo speaks, and his
Imperial is oddly accented but otherwise flawless. He will say
only that he is from ‘the North.’ He has admitted that his father was
fey—a creature of the air and sea. He has the ability to
manipulate wind and water, cold and storm, as well as being able to
find and speak with the fey. |
![]() |
| Taahvo Sieve |
Born 927 A.C. Taahvo is from the far North
and
the language he speaks sounds similar to that spoken on the Fisher
Coast. Taahvo is tall, half a hand over six feet. His skin is
tanned but his hair is pale, platinum blond and so long it seems it has
never been cut. Taahvo usually wears tightly cut black leather
boots, trousers, and jerkin over a white shirt. He moves with a
quiet, predatory grace, and always seems to have a blade at hand when
needed. His knowledge of herbs for healing and…other purposes, is
extensive, but he is quiet and uncomfortable in social situations. |

| Anne Skyvald | Born
931 A.C. Anne is Ian's half-sister and the youngest child
of Baron Simone Skyvald. Anne and Ian remain close despite the
different directions their lives have taken them. Anne's father
sent her away to study at a convent for several years until it became
advantageous to marry her off. At the convent she was encouraged
to develop her talent for divination and holy magic.
Unfortunately for her father, she was able to use these talents to
discover the unpleasant future that awaited her had she accepted the
bridegroom her father intended for her. With the help of Ian and
Corentyn, she managed to flee the Marches and become a lady-in-waiting
for the royal family in Sienova. Anne eventually purchased a
small estate and the wines produced there are widely considered to be
excellent. |

| Ian Skyvald | Born 927 A.C. Ian is the oldest surviving
child of Baron Simone Skyvald of Middle March. The Baron was a
widower at the time he had an affair with the acrobat who was Ian's
mother, so when he remarried and had legitimate heirs, the stigma of
being the oldest and a bastard caused Ian's life to be very
unpleasant. Ian's dilemma is that he must maintain the status of
a gentleman without having landed income or a supportive family.
He became a minor diplomat in the service of the Mithraic Crown and a
skilled operative for the Mithraic Secret Service. Ian's talents
include swordsmanship, poisons, pickpocketing, lockpicking, forgery,
magic, and cooking. His expense reports are rapidly becoming the
stuff of legend. |

959-960 campaign, in no particular order:
| Cáel Darcy |
Born 932 A.C. Cáel the Younger was raised as a typical second son of Galacian nobility. After training with the priests, he forced his parents to send him off to the Shadow School instead. When his fiancé, Maire MacGregor, was killed by bandits, Cáel's anger and resentment drove him from his home and family. He traveled to the Covenant State, where he was taken in by an old soldier named Alexius Flavius. Soon Cáel found himself in Covenant service, leading a squad of scouts, and distinguishing himself in campaigns in the wild land known as Intertia. Later, Cáel was recruited into the Covenant Secret Service. His mission was to find out as much as he could about Kay Erlenson. He did so, traveling with Kay, the Lady Rutherford, and others, and finding out about such troubling things as Baron Marenis's conspiracy. |

| Ranya Drummond |
Born 937 A.C. Ranya Drummond grew up in a remote island community off the coast of the Anakia Bay. Ranya was formally educated in the city of Iros. Upon the death of her parents and guardian, a suddenly homeless and penniless Ranya set out for a life at sea, adopting the guise of a young teenaged boy, “Balquin.” She has traveled the major trade routes for several years, stopping over for brief visits wherever things look interesting. Her dearest friend is a devil may care pirate named Chalcus. |

| Kay Erlenson |
Born 924 A.C. The man who goes by the name of
Kay Erlenson is striking in appearance. He has the look and
bearing of someone with the "Old Blood" of the Imperium. His eyes
are a very dark blue and, oddly, while his hair is dark like most with
the Old Blood, it isn't brown or black but rather a strange, dark wine
red. Kay carries a rapier at his right hip, and sometimes a wheel-lock
pistol in his belt. He occasionally wears back and breast, but
doesn't have the mien of a warrior. He dresses in rich clothing
of Sienovese or Imperial cut in hues of dark blue, green, and
purple. He usually wears sapphire studs in his ears, but has
little other obvious jewelry. Kay's demeanor is mercurial -
sometimes courtly and refined, sometimes quiet and introspective,
sometimes truly frightening. |

| Alessa Bianco Rutherford | Born
931 A.C. The Lady Alessa Alvar Bianco, Baroness Rutherford is
the heiress/widow to the Estate of the late Baron Edward Rutherford of
Mithraea. She is the daughter of Leitos and Helena de Alvar of
House Bianco. Alessa and her family are from Kadmos in the
Northern Achaean region. House Bianco and the Rutherford Estate
are business partners in the purveyance of spices, herbs, and other
rare substances--some suspect House Bianco of trafficking in less than
legal substances. Her eldest brother, Lucas, currently
manages the Rutherford Estate, while Alessa travels on estate business
and possibly in service to King Mark of Mithraea. Alessa has been
seen recently in the company of master gunsmith and craftsman, Kay
Erlenson. |

| Kyrene Barshai | Born 933 A.C.
Kyrene (AKA Cyrene) Barshai is Alessa's closest friend and loyal
assistant. Kyrene and Alessa were trained by the same teachers,
and the younger woman is especially skilled with the short sword and
quarterstaff; her aim with the short bow is deadly. Kyrene's
sweet smile is often mistaken for a gentle nature, but those who cross
her know the sharpness of her temper, and blade. Kyrene was sent
to live with Alessa's family in Kadmos when she was 6 years old.
Kyrene is fiercely protective of Alessa, as well as the other members
of House Bianco. Kyrene's mother, Ellada Sporades Barshai, grew up with
Helena Alvar Bianco. Her father, Kyklodes, is also a long time friend
and loyal factor of both Bianco and Alvar Houses. |

| Tirhakahn | Born ??
Tirhakahn is Kay's friend
and companion. Some assume he is Kay's "familiar." He is a
gryphon whose feathers are iridescent blues and purples. He is
intelligent and can speak reasonably well. He is playful and a
bit vain, and likes to play cards and drop dead marmots or fish on the
unwary. |

| Alyssandra Andropova (Sasha) |
Born 939? A beautiful priestess of the Morrigan and once an
educator of young children in one of the Order's schools on the Fisher
coast. She left her homeland to find Kay after having visions of
the "Man with no Shadow." Currently trapped in a frozen bubble of
Faerie beyind the reach of all her friends. She felt her task was
to protect Kay against coming threats to his life. |

| Chalcus |
Born ??. Real name unknown.
"Chalcus" is a dark haired and dashing swashbuckler of the Anteian.
He is capable of being good looking and goofy looking at the
same time and is too smart for his own good. A rogue at heart, he
figured out that Raven was this girl named Ranya, and comes around to
check out the goods. He found out that her lover "Chalcus," that nobody
has ever seen is a fabrication. One night, he comes swaggering into
whatever bar she's in, and bellows out "Ranya my love! It's me, your
own sweet Chalcus!" He sweeps her into a tight, inescapable hug, and
says something like "How's my raven haired girl? Skewered any hearts
lately?" She manages not to panic... He is at least a little bit in
love with her, but his methods of wooing are over the top, and as often
as not don't go exactly as he hoped, however. |

| Menelik the Swift |
Born 925.
Leader of the Tarim, a hill-tribe from the south-eastern borders of the
southern Imperial colonies (at the transition from semi-arid hills to
jungles). The Tarim became allied with the Imperials when a young
Titus Phillipus Vibulanus, on his first independent command, helped the
then-leader of the Tarim (Menelik's
father) with an affair of honor without offending their prickly and
convoluted sense of pride. Menelik was educated in the Empire
after the alliance was formalized (as a hostage, but polite people
don't mention that). Upon his father's death, Menelik, combining
the talents and virtues of both peoples, quickly outmaneuvered his
brothers and half-brothers and assumed leadership of the Tarim.
Since then, the Tarim have become very loyal tribal auxilliaries to the
Empire. Menelik is a talented ranger and dervish. |

| Aulia Flavius Potentius
(Amplia), Princess of the Empire of Man |
Born
937 A.C. HIH Aulia Potentius Flavius (Amplia to those with
whom she is familiar) is a source of great pride to the Imperial Family
and the Empire of Man. She is one of the most gifted mages in the
history of the Empire, and certainly within the Imperial Family
itself. She has had the finest education possible and is
uncommonly disciplined. . . for a young princess. Those entrusted with
her safety might describe her as needing only experience to temper her
youthful enthusiasm - unless they are certain they cannot be overheard,
in which case the words "headstrong" and "impulsive" might be whispered
quietly. A very few of the most aware and observant of the politics of
the Imperial Family might wonder what part she may play in the subtle
games of her older brother,
the Crown Prince. |

| Dalny Cortovina, Princess of Sienova |
Born 937 A.C. The
Princess is the younger daughter of King Niccolo III. He
humors her considerably, and has not yet arranged a marriage for
her. Pretty, but not as glamorous as her mother or elder sister,
Dalny has mousy brown hair and eyes and a boyish figure. Dalny prefers
the solitude of her natural history laboratory where she studies
plants, minerals, and the odd ancient bones found in the hillsides of
Sienova. She thinks parties and formal dances and being engaged
to a strange, stuffy foreign prince are pointless wastes of time, but
does long to escape the confines of the kingdom and have real
adventures like her friends do. The princess has a dry sense of
humor combined with an enduring innocence. |
