The Fisher Coast Peoples and the Siumiset

Fisher Coast and Siumiset costume

  1. Fisher Coast Costume is generally simple and conservative.  Somen wear long full skirts and cover their hair. Men wear tunics and full breaches.  Outdoors in the late fall, winter, and early spring, travellers wear fur coats, boots and hats.   Preferred colors are the colors of the sea and pine forests.  Since the monetary system on the Fisher Coast is rather haphazard, much weath is worn in the form of coins of other lands (pierced for attaching to a cord or chain), ornate gold and silver jewelry of a style not dissimilar to that of the Gaels, and gems.  Common gems include mother of pearl, pearls, amber, and jet.
  2. The Suimiset or Semiset people of PRaedia are nomadic.  Their language share certain root features with that of the Fisher people, the Aito, the Plains people, and the Hill tribes of the far south.  Some groups of Semiset seem to share the most with the Hill Peoples, but most seem closest in culture and language to the Fisher folk of the North.   No one knows why the Siumiset choose or are forced to wander.  They travel throughout Praedia acting as tinkers, smiths, carpenters, animal tamers,  folk healers, fortune tellers, and such for the local peoples of the region they are in.  Some few settle in the cities and open businesses, but they often face much prejudice.  As wanderers, the Siumiset are naturally looked on as suspect by the parochial settled peoples of the lands.  They find the most welcome among the Dwarves and Elves, neither of whom seem to share the humans' prejudices for whatever the reason.   Most Siumiset wear costumes similar to those of the Fisher peoples. the biggest difference is in generally lighter weight fabrics, brighter colors, and shorter (scandalously so!) skirts among the women.
